Sophie entered Glenmegan at 8 weeks old, took one look around at the 3 older girls gathered to greet her, and said to herself, “I can take these bitches.” From that moment to this, she has run this pack. If I’d let her, she’d run this house. She is a true diva, “she who must be obeyed”, or at least “she who must not be ignored”.

Sophie’s pistol pup attitude stood her very well in the show ring, where she finished her championship just before her 18 month birthday. Her larger than life personality is charm itself – I swear she won her first major by looking up and smiling at the judge - but it can be troublesome at home. Sophie has proclaimed herself, and rightfully so, the queen of the counter surfers. Though her daughters Poppy and Emmie are currently making a run at the title, I doubt that anybody will manage to outsteal Sophie, who once took 3 strips of bacon right out of the frying pan.

Sophie was a wonderful brood bitch and mother; she was devoted to her pups, and did a fabulous job of raising them. Perhaps it was all the extra food she got when she was pregnant and nursing. Retired now, Sophie busies herself teaching her grandbabies important doggie skills – like how to lick the dishes clean in the dishwasher before Mom can shut the door.

Though small of stature (okay, I admit it, one judge called her a cute little munchkin) Sophie has a beautiful headpiece, dark eyes, perfect scissor bite, good bone and balance, and her movement is something to see. She has passed on her many good qualities to her offspring as well. Sophie may not be the biggest Berner ever, but in her opinion, and mine, she is one of the best.
